BAABUK: Behind the Scenes
Take a look behind the scenes in Portugal!
Let's set the scene in Manteigas, Portugal!
Artisan village of Manteigas, located in central Portugal in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park.
Here is where we meet Isabel;
The craftswoman behind Baabuk's premium wool at her shop and factory.
(Isabel: left; Dan: right)
Isabel is an innovator when it comes to color, texture & design. Her factory and processes are unique.
She combines vintage, fully functioning machines with more modern industrial processes to create beautiful, authentic designs.
We were able to take a tour of the factory with Isabel and capture the whole process below!
After visiting with Isabel (and picking up this great souvenir that Todd wears so well)...
...we headed into Porto! The coastal town known for their bridges and... you guessed it, Port Wine.
We stopped here for a long street-side lunch of fresh fish and refreshing beverages before heading to the assembly factory.
Here we see Isabel's wool cut, sewn, and transformed into the Urban Wooler:
And of course, Dan tests the soles for durability and taste:
Watch the full process below!
It's clear why the Baabuk team sought out Portugal to craft their footwear. Not only is the wool locally sourced from happy sheep in Northern Portugal, but the Portuguese are known for their expertise in shoemaking.
We're proud to be a part of the preservation of their wool industry, and hope to visit again soon...
